Joining takes about a minute. You'll need the invitation code or link your trip operator sent you. Everyone traveling with you can use the same code on their own devices.
1. Install the app on your phone or tablet
You may have been emailed a direct link from your trip operator to install the app, along with your invitation code.
If you only received the code, no worries! Find the app download link below, or search for Fieldmarks in the App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android and install it. It's free.
The Fieldmarks app works on iOS and Android, for both phone and tablet devices. If you're bringing a tablet, take advantage of the extra screen real estate to make browsing the sightings map and Wildlife Library even better!
IMPORTANT: Fieldmarks is invitation-only. You must receive an invitation code from your trip operator. If your operator doesn't use Fieldmarks yet, ask them to learn more about Fieldmarks.
2. Open your trip
There are three ways in, and they all arrive at the same place:
Type your code. Open the app, tap I have a code, and enter the code from your invitation.
Tap the link. If your invitation has a join link, tapping it opens a page showing your code with install buttons for your phone. Once the app is installed your code may be filled in for you, and you just confirm.
Scan the QR code. Your guide can show a QR code on their phone. Point your camera at it and you'll land on the same page.
One code for your whole party
If you're traveling with friends or family, everyone in your party uses the same invitation code on their own devices. That way, everyone's sightings sync and only one person needs to log. Be sure to share the code with everyone traveling with you.
If you're traveling with others who really want to log their own sightings separately, just ask your operator to move them to a separate party with a different code.
3. Get ready for Offline Mode
Fieldmarks enables you to browse your itinerary, Wildlife Library, interactive maps, and even log sightings without data – but you must download the offline pack first.
If you're connected to wifi when you join your trip, the offline data will begin downloading immediately. If you aren't on wifi, you will have the option to manually download while on your cellular data, or wait until you connect to wifi.
Most downloads should only be around 3 MB per region/park you're visiting. However, if you're already traveling, keep in mind roaming data can be more expensive than usual, depending on your data plan.
Joining FAQ
What if my code isn't working?
If you get a "Code Not Found" error, check the code against your invitation. They contain no spaces, and typically don't have easily-confused characters like O/0 and I/l/1 in them.
If it still fails, contact your operator to ensure you have the correct code.
If you receive an error about your trip no longer being available, this means your code is correct, but the trip was removed or disabled by your operator.
How do I join a different expedition?
The app holds one trip at a time. To switch to another, open the settings icon on your trip screen and choose Log Out. This clears the trip's data from your phone, and you can then enter a new code.
If you have sightings that haven't uploaded yet, the app warns you before logging out. Get back online first so nothing is lost.
