The Sightings tab holds everything you and the people you're traveling with have logged, along with anything your guide logged for the group.
There are two modes to view sightings: Map and List.
Map View
If you've tagged your sightings with locations, this view lays out all your sightings on an interactive, offline map. Clicking on a pin shows the details of that sighting.
By expanding the Filters toggle, you can combine multiple filters and controls to see exactly the sightings you want.
Filters & Controls in Map View
Color By – chooses what information and colors are displayed in the map pins. Default is Verification status (including animal count), but can be changed to Itinerary Day, Animal Type, Rarity, and Conservation Status.
Verification Status – Guide verification status (see below for explanation)
Type – General grouping of animals (e.g. Mammals, Birds)
Behavior – Behaviors you tagged your sightings with (e.g. Sleeping, Eating)
Trait – Traits you tagged your sightings with (e.g. Juvenile, Pregnant)
Rarity – Frequency of sighting in the given region (e.g. Uncommon)
Conservation Status – IUCN conservation status (e.g. Endangered)
List View
This view lists out all of your sightings, grouped by particular dimensions.
Within List View, there are 2 display options that supersede all other filters and controls:
Sightings mode lists every sighting individually
Animals mode combines all sightings of the same animal into one listing
Filters & Controls in List View
Group By – Whether to group sightings/animals by date seen, area, animal type, conservation status, or no grouping.
Sort – How the list is sorted: A-Z (default), Most individuals sighted, Most recent, Rarest first
Verification Status – Guide verification status (see below for explanation)
Type – General grouping of animals (e.g. Mammals, Birds)
Behavior – Behaviors you tagged your sightings with (e.g. Sleeping, Eating)
Trait – Traits you tagged your sightings with (e.g. Juvenile, Pregnant)
Rarity – Frequency of sighting in the given region (e.g. Uncommon)
Conservation Status – IUCN conservation status (e.g. Endangered)
These combinations of modes, filters, and controls enable you to view precisely the sighting data you're interested in.
Pro Tip: The default view is Sightings mode grouped by Date. However, if you wanted to just see a list of all the unique animals you saw, you would switch to Animals mode and change Group By to "No grouping" (fig. A below)
Guide Verification & Correction
Every sighting has a verification status, as well as a sync status:
Verified — your guide has confirmed the sighting you logged. (Sightings a guide logs are automatically marked verified)
Pending / Not yet reviewed — logged, but your guide hasn't looked at it yet. This is perfectly normal, especially mid-drive.
Unconfirmed — your guide wasn't able to confirm this one. The record stays exactly as you logged it; it's simply marked.
Guide update — your guide has suggested a change. See below.
Pending sync or Sync failed — the record hasn't uploaded yet. It's still saved on your phone.
When your guide suggests a change
Guides often catch a misidentification: a similar-looking species, or a count that was hard to judge from a moving vehicle. When that happens you'll see a banner on your trip screen and a Guide update badge on the sighting.
By default, a guide's corrections automatically update the sighting — but you still have the final say on what you logged.
Open it and you'll see what you logged next to what your guide suggests (fig. C below). Choose Keep change to accept it, or Revert to mine to go back to your original.
Your guide may also leave a note on a sighting, which appears in the detail view alongside your own notes.
Who can see your sightings
Your sightings are shared with your own party and with your operator's team. If several parties are traveling on the same trip, you won't see theirs and they won't see yours.
